Fit Family Makes Being Healthy Fun
I n conjunction with the start of the FitFamily initiative, Air Force Services Agency officials launched a family fitness Web site as part of the Year of the Air Force Family.
During YOAFF (Year Of The Air Force Family), FitFamily will encourage the ABCs of wellness: A Activities - plan activities that include all family members; B Build healthy habits that will last a lifetime; C Count - count progress; small steps each day make a huge difference; D Day - schedule day trips, game nights and fun time to develop togetherness; E Encourage - encourage healthy eating and cooking as a family; F Fun - have fun as a Family while creating healthy habits.
FitFamily is a goal-incentive program and is open to all active duty, Reserve and Guard members, Department of Defense and civilian Families, retired Military members, honorably discharged veterans with 100 percent service-connected disability, and former or surviving military spouses and their family members.
The FitFamily Web site provides resources, ideas and goal setting tools to help families be active, make healthy nutrition choices and have fun in an effort to promote overall wellness.
The FitFamily Web site allows deployed members to participate with their family by working on their goals at the deployed location. FitFamily can boost the morale by keeping deployed Airmen involved and working towards a common goal with their family.
The goal of the FitFamily program is for families to begin thinking about family wellness, and ultimately incorporate healthy habits and lifestyles in all aspects of their lives. FitFamily goals are tracked by a points system. The maximum number of points each family can log per day is 4,000 points. Activities are based on a 60-minute activity guideline as recommended by the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Levels incorporate points for Togetherness, Commitment, Determi-nation, Perseverance and Wellness. FitFamily incentives are achieved at each level.
