Lowe’s Military Discount For 2023: 10% Off (+Veterans Day Info)

When people think “home improvement”, they generally think of one of 2 places: Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Home Depot offers a military discount, and now you can finally use it online.

Like Home Depot, Lowe’s military discount can also be used both in stores, as well as online.

So what exactly is Lowe’s military discount?

Just like with Home Depot, Lowe’s offers a 10% discount to all active duty military, veterans, and immediate family members.

To redeem the discount, you simply need to verify your military service in 3 easy steps.

Lowe’s Military Discount Snapshot

As mentioned above, Lowe’s offers a 10% off discount for active duty and retired military.

What’s even better, they also allow veterans, as well as immediate family members, access to the discount as well.

To be clear, here is how each is defined:

A veteran is defined as any individual that is retired or honorably separated from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), or the US Public Health Service (USPHS).

An active duty member/reservist is defined as anyone actively serving in the US Armed Forces, which includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, NOAA, and USPHS.

An immediate family member is defined as a spouse or dependent child (up to 18 years of age). A mother or father of a veteran does not technically qualify as “immediate family,” but if they have access to your MyLowe’s card, they should be able to redeem the discount.

How do I claim my Lowe’s military discount?

Here’s a step-by-step process on how to claim your military discount at Lowe’s.

It’s under the Customer Service column.

Step 3: Once there, click on the button that says ‘Verify with ID.me’

Step 4: Sign in to ID.me, or create an ID.me account.

Step 5: Once your identity has been verified, you’ll need to either create a MyLowe’s account or sign in to an existing one.

What’s The Exact Discount I’ll Get?

After your veteran or active duty military status has been verified (which generally takes a minute or two), you’ll be able to start shopping and get 10% off everyday purchases both online, and in stores.

The nice thing about their military discount program is that, once you’re completely registered, the discount will apply automatically to all future purchases.

This means not having to remember to bring your military ID, DD214, or VA card.

Simply register once, and the discount will apply 363 days a year. (Lowe’s is closed only 2 days a year: Thanksgiving and Christmas day)

OK, sounds great. But what are the restrictions?

Like most things in life, there is some fine print involved.

Some of the restrictions of Lowe’s military discount program include:

  • Discharge Status: Anything other than honorable, under honorable conditions, or general discharge. If you have been dishonorably discharged, have a Bad Conduct discharge, or Other Than Honorable Conditions discharge, you won’t be eligible for the discount.
  • Sales and Coupons: You can’t use the military discount in combination with existing sales. Additionally, you can’t apply the discount to the purchase of gift cards or product/service installs. (full list of that below)
  • Not Stackable: You can’t pile on a bunch of other discounts to your order. This means that you won’t be able to add on the usual 5% discount that’s provided to MyLowes card members.

Product and Service Installations

The following installation services are ineligible for Lowe’s military discount program:

  • Kitchen installation: These include appliance installation and removal, cabinets, countertops, sinks and faucets, backsplashes, flooring, lighting and ceiling fans, blinds, shades and shutters, and doors.
  • Bathroom installation services: These include toilet installation, shower doors, vanities, sinks and faucets, cabinets and countertops, blinds, and flooring.
  • Living Room / Bedroom installation: These include the installation of doors, flooring, lighting and ceiling fans, and blinds.
  • Whole home installation services: These include the installation of flooring, doors, windows, blinds, shades, HVAC systems, ceiling fans, generators, lighting, water heaters and softeners, and window air conditioning units.
  • Exterior installation services: These include the installation of fencing, roofing, windows, doors, decks, gutters, awnings, ramps, sheds, and playsets.
  • Garage and Storage installations: These include garage doors and openers, doors, sheds, and attic ladders.

Other Restrictions

Apart from the installations listed above, the discount can also not be applied to extended protection plans, fees, or taxes.

Also, you won’t be able to apply the military discount to volume purchases or special discount programs.

For example, if you’re a contractor that builds homes, you won’t be able to buy 500 smoke detectors and apply the discount.

Additionally, you can’t buy 1,000 electrical outlets and expect to get a discount.

Luckily, the Lowes Buy In Bulk program already offers sizable discounts to those buying significant quantities of select items.

What products are eligible for the military discount?

From what we can tell, apart from the restrictions listed above, you’ll be entitled to a discount on nearly everything in the store.

This includes things like:

  • Building supplies: These include things like Asphalt repair and tools, Gutters and accessories, Lumber, Decking and porches, drywall, ventilation equipment, and stairs and railings.
  • Bathroom supplies: Including things like toilets, bathtubs, sinks, vanities, faucets and shower heads, shower doors, bathroom mirrors, and hardware.
  • Electrical supplies: Including things like electrical outlets and adapters, generators, doorbells, batteries, conduit and conduit fittings, electrical testers and tools, and electrical wire and cable.
  • Lawn and garden supplies: Including things like fertilizer, irrigation, outdoor tools and equipment, landscaping equipment, pavers and retaining walls, insect and pest control, and outdoor drainage.
  • Lighting and ceiling fans: Including things like chandeliers and pendants, vanity lights, flush mounted lighting, wall sconces, kitchen island lighting, and lamps/lamp shades.
  • Paint supplies: Including things like caulking, interior stains and finishes, resurfacing kits, paint brushes and rollers, cleaners and chemicals, rubberized coatings, and patching and repair kits.

* Note: The above list is by no means exhaustive, and of course, subject to change. Check with your local Lowes for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Lowes Have A Veterans Day Discount?

From our research, it does not appear that Lowe’s offers a specific discount on Veterans Day.

With that said, if you’re current or former military, you can still redeem their everyday military discount.

The terms, conditions, and restrictions are exactly the same on Veterans Day as they are on the other 364 days of the year.

Be sure to sign up for the MyLowes card here to take advantage of this special offer.

Am I entitled to a military discount with online orders?

Yes. All online orders are eligible to receive a military discount (with certain restrictions, see above)

When you go to checkout with your online order, your discount will be automatically applied.

No entering in a coupon code or special number, just simply point, click, and buy.

I’m not good with computers. Can I verify my military service in a store?

Yes. The next time you hit your local Lowe’s, simply bring a photo ID (driver’s license, Military ID, or passport), and also bring either your Veterans admin. card, or your DOD card.

They include:

  • Common Access Card (CAC)
  • DD214
  • Uniformed Services ID Card Active Duty
  • Veterans ID Card (VIC)
  • Uniformed Services ID Card
  • VA Health ID Card (VHIC)
  • Active Duty Family Member card

You’ll have to pay a visit to the customer service desk, but they should be able to get you squared away within 5 minutes.

Will I have to verify my military service every time I go to Lowe’s?

We touched on this earlier but figured we would reiterate this point because it seems like there’s a lot of confusion in various online forums.

This probably stems from the fact that Lowe’s made a policy change on their military discount program back in 2017.

During that time, you actually had to bring your military ID card, DD214, or VA card every time you went to checkout.

Since May 2017, things have changed.

To be clear, once you are registered with a MyLowes card and your military service has been vetted, you will NOT have to verify military service every time you make a purchase.

The 10% military discount will be automatically applied and deducted from your total.

Is there a maximum total that can be discounted?

From what we can tell, there is no maximum amount that a military discount can be applied to.

Your bill can be $10,000, and as long as your items aren’t included in the restricted items list, you’ll receive a 10% discount for everything.

You can read the full policy on the Lowe’s website here.

19 Replies to “Lowe’s Military Discount For 2023: 10% Off (+Veterans Day Info)

  1. Fyi, Lowe’s NO longer offers the military/Veterans discount online. As with Home Depot, consumers must make purchases in-store to qualify for the discount.

Evidently this just changed recently (circa May-June 2019) the discount was still applied to Lowe’s online orders as recently as the beginning of April.

    1. Thanks for that, Dave. I’m going to reach out to them directly to confirm, will update this article shortly.

  2. I just noticed that as well, no more online military discounts. re-read their conditions and it just says; “in store”, but no mention why they discontinued the online.

Must of stopped in June because I had items in my cart from a week or so ago that showed the discount and it was gone today.

This stinks because many times the items are not available in store, only shipped. And that free shipping for My Lowe’s accounts is useless now.

    1. Exactly – this is crap policy for stuff that’s not available in the store. I get it – they want you to come in so you end up buying more or whatever. But if what you need isn’t available in the store, I’m not going there anyway.

  3. Previously, Lowes only restricted Stacking discounts. You still got your military discount on sale and marked down items. It seems their new CEO is tightening the screws to drive more people the Home Depot.

  4. The 10% off now only applies to regular priced items. But will recognize at check out the better price for the consumer between a sale price or the discounted price. Looking at one customers receipt, they received about a 6% discount military with adjustment to the sale price. This has just gone into effect middle of June 2019. I am a disabled veteran as well as a senior store manager. I am not fluent in all of the details as I have been out of work with a back surgery.

  5. NO MORE ONLINE DISCOUNT! Yep, it is true. Home Depot is closer for me but I have been ordering online only items from Lowes because of their military discount. I thought Home Depot might follow Lowes. Nope. Lowes cancelled the online program. I will most likely go to the closest store, Home Depot.
Thank you Lowes for the short time it lasted. Goodbye.

  6. I just talked to Lowes on the phone. If you order online you can take your receipt to the store and they will apply the discount there and refund you. I am about to see if this is true.

    1. Nathan, please followup on here what you find out.

I think I am going to order an in store item for pickup, an in stock item for regular shipping.
Then an ‘unavailable for pick up’ item to be shipped. See how all that works.
Then when in the store, ask about ordering online for truck delivery.

Think that covers all the bases.

  7. Lowes just changed all the policies on military discounts. No online order, no appliances if on sale, discounts only on regular priced items according to Lowes store on Poinsett Hwy Greenville SC. They however will discount anything that is regular price. I talked with corporate and ended up getting different information . Walking into the store today and no notice that Lowes has changed there policy a customer rep was very aggressive and very rude in handling a situation of a recent purchase. Never shop at Lowes again, they are well aware of the employee behavior , a pattern established with that employee and this employee Robert represents Lowes. Lowes doesn’t need my business and I don’t and will never shop at a Lowes ever again. Home Depot here I come…..

  8. Returning plants with a one year warranty s more difficult that really needs to be for the LOWES Store in Morristown, TN…be advised that IF you TRY to return DEAD plants soon after you purchased the, YOU WILL BE INTIMIDATED AND THREATENED AS IF YOU STOLE THEM, EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE A RECEIPT!!! I have never seen such rude behavior from a store employee Team Lead….accused me of bringing in DOA plants that where “not from here”. I will NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM LOWES!!!

  9. At Home Depot if you only have to show your military ID card you don’t have to sign up for anything give him any information or anyting yes. Being retired military I show my ID card and I get a discount Lowe’s they want to much information and their computers on me and I don’t trust that information so I don’t shop at Lowe’s very

  10. I also just found out about Lowes discontinuing the online military discount. A real shame, especially considering they had gone to the lengths of creating a form online that verified your veteran status. We don’t have a Lowes in our city, so this was the only way to shop them. In the last year I had purchased a new carpet shampooer, all my spring lawn care products, numerous garden tools, and a new washer and dryer (a $2000+ order) from them.

I was literally about to purchase a new dishwasher from Lowes this weekend online, but without the discount I can get it cheaper from a local store. This will likely be the case with most everything else I have been using them for from here on out. I did not mind handing them my money, but it looks like no longer.

  11. It’s a shame Lowes stopped the online discounts. This was a huge reason I started to shop more at Lowes. I could place the order online, receive my discount, go pick up my order and be on my way. I kept telling Home Depot to do the same because having to go through the process of picking up my order, refunding and reapplying the whole purchase this time with my military discount was annoying.

When I asked the Lowes cashier when did this change, the cashier did not know it had changed and instead of apologizing for the inconvenience she immediately started to assume the reason why they changed the policy, “online hacking.”

I use to prefer Home Depot, however, I was saving so much more time at Lowes that I changed over to them. Well now I am not saving any additional time guess I’ll be going back to Home Depot since it is closer.

  12. Please note:

Lowe’s did change their policies. An employee at an Ohio location informed me this wonderful fact:

“If the product you are purchasing is on-sale or in any way already discounted, you will NOT receive your military discount.”

So it’s no longer a 10% discount, regardless, on every purchase. Now, if their sale price is 10% or more, your military discount is MEANINGLESS. You’re now the same as every other Joe Schmo…

We’ve spent upwards of ten grand, maybe fifteen with them over the past few years, easily. I do mean easily.

Since we (most of us) had to register online with them for our military discount, they cannot find it in their tiny, tiny hearts or what little brain matter they have to EMAIL US when they change their policies?

We were told the change is due to a new CEO… so I suggest we all find an appropriate email with witch to contact the CEO and tell them to stick their new policies where sun don’t shine.

Myself, I’m finding somewhere else to spend my thousands on for home-related purchases.

  13. I contacted Lowe’s customer service about my purchase today, and they said when I do the in-store pickup, they can apply the discount. Ugh, what a hassle!

  14. I also just found out about the change in military discount. Have also bought thousands of dollars of merchandise from Lowe’s in the years I have had an account with them. More than 30 yrs. Always paid full price untill about 10 yrs ago when found out about the discount. Just bought new washer and dryer and only realized didn’t get full discount until got home. Not told at all about change until drove 25 miles back to store. Very bad business along with terrible delivery service. Appliance damaged when delivered on box.

  15. I think that Lowe’s and Home Depot met and decided to end their 10% veteran discount on lumber, appliances, electrical, etc. Their new policies took effect at almost the same time. Did these two companies conspire to “price fixing”?
No more 10% discount for those which laid their lives on the line for their country; however, if you use your Lowe’s credit card you get a 5% discount on lumber, etc.
Lowe’s appreciates possible interest income over arms, legs, eyes, blood and stress and all things military has given.
I will be buying more items from their competitors.
