How To Claim The Military Discount In A Modell’s Store

Claiming the Modell’s military discount in stores is even easier than doing it online.

The discount is claimed by either showing your military or first responder ID to a cashier upon checkout at a Modell’s store, or by confirming your military status on their site using their SheerID.

The discount will then be automatically applied to your subtotal.

All you have to do is ensure that you have your ID on you when shopping, or that you can easily verify your status yourself if you’re making your purchase online.

Suitable military ID’s include:

  • Uniform services ID card
  • CAC card
  • Veterans card

From what I can tell, you cannot receive the discount by simply showing up in a uniform.

Additionally, a DD214, DD 1173, or DD2765 are not acceptable as an official military ID.

Who can claim the discount?

As stated before, those with a military background as well as first responders can claim the discount.

Additionally, registered dependents of military personnel can also exercise the discount.

Those include:

  • Spouses
  • Children of military members
  • Other dependents

Keep in mind that these registered dependents will still need to verify the military details of their family member that is currently serving in the military.

In addition, Modell’s doesn’t give a concrete list of every group that they offer the discount to, but you can presume this discount covers all branches of the military as well as police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and correctional officers should all be able to claim the discount.

It also appears that they offer it to retired military and veterans, as well as reservist and national guard members.

Frequently asked questions

Can the discount be combined with other discounts?

It’s unclear whether or not the military discount can be stacked and used in conjunction with other discounts, but it’s definitely possible.

Many stores allow for discounts to stack, usually just having a limit to the number of coupons or discounts you can claim in a single purchase.

However, even stores that don’t typically allow discounts to stack will make an exception if one of the discounts being claimed is the military discount.

If you’re buying in person at a Modell’s sporting goods store, it’s worth asking a store associate to see what their rules are on claiming multiple discounts in one purchase.

On the other hand, if you’re making an online purchase, short of calling customer service your only option is to try and claim multiple discounts at checkout.

If the website doesn’t allow discounts to stack, either the first discount you claimed or the lower discount will be bumped out.

You may also receive see a message or dialogue box telling you that multiple discounts can’t be claimed.

If discounts can’t be stacked, you can make separate purchases to ensure that you save as much money as possible.

Can the discount be claimed online and in-store?

Yes!

As mentioned above, the discount can be applied to both online purchases as well as in-store purchases.

In both cases the person claiming the discount must show their ID or otherwise verify their status before they can claim the discount.

The process is usually quick and easy, but is of course easier to claim in person, as less steps are needed to verify your status.

Can retired vets claim the discount?

Although Modell’s doesn’t give a strict answer one way or another, it’s likely that they do allowe those who are no longer active military to claim the discount.

It’s always worth asking if you’re making an in-person purchase; if you’re buying online, you can just try to enter your information and see if the website accepts it.

However, it’s worth noting that Modell’s verification form online does have an option to check your specific status; the options being “Active Duty”, “Reservist/Guard”, “Veteran/Retiree” and “Registered Department”.

This makes it extremely likely that veterans, retirees and people of all military backgrounds will be able to claim the discount.

Can those who have been dishonorably discharged?

It’s safe to say probably not.

The different military statuses that Modell’s recognizes are listed above, and nothing that seems to mean dishonorably discharged is included.

Again, it’s worth asking if you’re making a purchase in person, and worth trying if you’re making a purchase online.

Modells will use their own discretion to either accept or reject your status and offer you the discount.

Are there any limits to the discount?

There doesn’t seem to be any limits to exclusions from the discount.

The wording on Modell’s website definitely implies that all items in their store are eligible to receive the discount, however it is possible that clearance items and markdowns are excluded.

You can always ask an associate if you’re in-person, or attempt to claim the discount during an online purchase; the website will either charge you full price or the associate will tell you if there are any exclusions to the discount.
