GoPro is by far the largest direct-to-consumer vendor of cameras in the world.
All those crazy Youtube videos you see of guys jumping out of airplanes, snowboarding down treacherous mountains, or surfing gigantic waves were all likely filmed using a GoPro camera.
I’ve had a few people reach out to me asking whether or not GoPro offers a military discount to active duty members.
The simple answer to that question is, they do and they don’t.
If that sounds confusing, don’t worry. It’s actually easier than you think…
GoPro Military Discount #1 – GovX
One way you can save on GoPro equipment if you’re current or former military, a first responder (IE firefighter, EMS, etc.), or law enforcement is by signing up for GovX.
GovX is basically a company that partners with brands that offer discounts on select items.
They work essentially as an intermediary between some of the top brands in the world, and members of the armed services.

One of those brands is, you guessed it: GoPro.
Looking at their GoPro page, you’ll find a small list of GoPro products that are available at a discount to active and former military.
They include items like:
- HERO7 Black & White Cameras
- Sports Kit
- Travel Kit
- Adventure Kit
- HERO7 Silver Camera
However, this is sort of where GovX falls a bit short.
These items are quite literally the only items that are available at a discounted price.
Need a Dual battery charger = battery? Too bad, it’s not listed.
Thinking about picking up a NVG Mount? Also not listed.
GoPro literally has 100’s of items for sale on their official website, but you won’t find nearly any of them on the GovX site.
With that said, there are a few other ways I learned about that can help those in the military save BIG TIME when it comes to GoPro products.
GoPro Discount #2 – Students
One prominent discount that GoPro features on their site is the student discount.
Sure, this doesn’t exactly help everyone that is serving in the military.
With that said, there are 1,000’s of military members that are currently enrolled in college in conjunction with their military service.
Here’s a step by step process on how to save if you’re both in the military and a student:
Step 1: Click Here to visit the official GoPro website.
Step 2: Once you’re there, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and look for the link at the bottom-right that says “Student Discount”.
Step 3: Verify Your Status As A Student
For this, you simply need to click the “Verify” button on the right hand side of the page, and go through the verification process.
GoPro offers 2 ways to verify your status as a student, including:
1. Verify through their launch portal.
Once you select your school and click “Launch Portal”, it will open up a new window that acts as a web authentication service.
This is what you would see if you were attending NJIT, which is where I went to college:
Once you authenticate, you’ll be good to go. The other way to verify your college enrollment is to…
2. Verify through your schools email.
The other alternative is to verify via your school email. After selecting your school, simply click on the “Verify using email” button, enter in your personal school email address 2 times, and click send email.
They will send you an email that will have a link to confirm your email address.
Once you’ve verified that you’re currently enrolled in one of the 1,000’s of colleges in the US, you’ll get 20% off all GoPro cameras and accessories.
GoPro Discount Method #3 – Discount Codes
The other alternative to the student discount is through a good old fashioned discount codes.
Merchants like GoPro routinely offer discount codes to help boost business, and they can be as little as 5% off your order, to as much as 50%!
Here’s just a few of them that I found:
- Free 32 Micro SD on your order – Use promo code: free32
- Free US Ground Shipping – Use promo code: stoked22
- 70% off Hero7 Black: No coupon code, simply visit their website at GoPro.com.
There are a ton of other discount and coupon codes listed, but it looks like the vast majority of them have expired.
While it sucks that GoPro doesn’t offer a military discount straight up, perhaps one day they will!
In any event, hopefully the above will help you save some money.
I will definitely be keeping an eye on their website and twitter account, and will update this page with the latest info as it comes about.
