Holiday Inn was founded by a man named Kemmon Wilson in 1952 after he took his family of 7 on a vacation and had to pay an extra fee for each of his five children to stay in the hotel room.
He was upset with hotels charging per person and not per room, so he created the family and budget friendly version he was looking for.
He created hotels with swimming pools, restaurants, and rooms that had private bathrooms and phones.
He started with 400 hotels, and today the chain has over 1100 hotels in the United States and various other countries.
Today, the chain is owned by IHG, the Intercontinental Hotels Group. IHG also owns other large hotel chains such as Crowne Plaza and Kimpton.
Holiday Inn carries the motto, “We’re there. So you can be too.” They have a variety of hotel types including classic hotels, express locations, resorts, and club resorts.

What Is The Official Holiday Inn Military Discount?
There is not a military discount straight from Holiday Inn, but their owner, IHG, has a discount for those who serve that covers Holiday Inn.
The Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) offers a special military rate on many rooms throughout the United States, Canada, Central America, and South America.
There are some hotels and rooms that will not be eligible for the discount.
These are not advertised. You simply need to check the website to find a room that is eligible to be reserved at the discounted military rate.
Since IHG owns Holiday Inn, this discounted rate is available at Holiday Inn as well.
The discounted rate varies, but seems to typically provide close to 5% off your room purchase price.
How To Redeem The Discount
Here’s step-by-step instructions on redeeming the military rate:
Step 1: Click Here to access Holiday Inn’s reservation website
Step 2: Choose your destination, check-in date, and check-out date
Step 3: Once you fill in this information, you will see a box labelled “Rate Preference.”
Click the drop down menu and select “”Government/ Military Rate.”
Step 4: Choose and finish reserving your room, and bring a military ID with you at check-in to prove your current military status

Who Can Claim This Deal?
This deal is available to active military members. This includes members of Active Duty, Reserves, and the National Guard in all five branches.
It’s also available to retired military members and veterans.
Dependent family members can claim the deal as well.
What Are The Restrictions?
The IHG Holiday Inn military discount is only available on rooms advertised at the special military rate.
If you stay in a room that is not eligible for the deal, you will not get a discount.
The discounted tickets need to be purchased directly from Holiday Inn’s website.
If you purchase the tickets through a third party retailer or website, as many people do, the deal will not be available.
When you use this deal, you need to be able to prove your current military status at check-in.
