About KOA
KOA was founded in 1962 in Billings, Montana, by Dave Drum and John Wallace, along with two other business partners.
It started as a simple place to sleep for travelers who were on their way to the famous Seattle Worlds Fair.
After the team looked into their business further, they found a need for a nationwide campground chain.
Soon, KOA began to expand. Today, the chain has over 500 locations across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Today, KOA offers a variety of amenities to its guests.
They have three types of campgrounds, including Journeys, Holidays, and Resorts.
Their Journeys are a great place to stay while traveling or road-tripping, their Holidays are perfect for both relaxation and play, and their resorts include everything you need for a perfect vacation, from fun to food to a place to rest at night.
KOA has tent lots, RV spots, and cabins that guests can stay in.
Many locations have fire pits, grills, pools, playgrounds, parks, and off-leash dog parks as well.
Some even have stores and laundry facilities.

What Is The Official KOA Military Discount?
KOA unfortunately does not have a corporate-wide military discount that is offered at all of its locations.
They do, however, have military deals at many of their locations, set by the owners of each specific site.
Because these deals are not set by corporate, they do vary by location.
To help you get an idea of the types of military discounts KOA locations across the country offer, OMK reached out to a few of their campsites to learn the details of their deals.
We will look into these discounts below.
Orlando/Kissimmee, Florida
The KOA near Orlando offers a 10% discount to military members, veterans, and first responders when they make their reservations online.
You’ll need to present your ID when you check-in.
There are a few restrictions, including a minimum and maximum stay. This discount also can’t be combined with other discounts.
Currituck Sound, North Carolina
This KOA location on the Atlantic Coast, offers a generous 20% discount to active duty and veteran service members.
This deal is active through November 2023, and you can call the location for specific details.
Watkins Glen, New York
This Resort KOA offers luxury camping in the Fingerlakes, along with a 20% discount on daily rates.
Make sure you have your ID when you check into the facility.
Nashville, Tennessee
The Nashville KOA is another Resort style campground. It offers a 10% Hero Discount that is available to military service members, veterans, police, and other first responders.
This discount can’t be combined with others, and you’ll need a valid ID to qualify.

Who Can Claim This Deal?
The eligibility of the KOA military discounts will vary by location, just like the overall deal does.
This type of wording would typically include members of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard.
It would extend to Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard roles.
It would typically also extend to retired military members and veterans.
Active military usually refers to anyone who is currently serving, in any branch and any role.
Most will offer the discount to any veteran, even those that didn’t serve till retirement. However, you’ll need some kind of ID, such as a VA health services card.
What Are The Restrictions?
The KOA military discounts may come with some restrictions.
However, this will always vary based on location.
You will want to check with the KOA you will be staying at to verify the exact restrictions, and overall details, of their military deal.
Many will not let you combine the military discount with KOA Reward points.

Conclusion
Overall, it is unfortunate that KOA does not have a corporate-wide military discount.
The fact that many of their locations do, however, is definitely worth checking out.
If you’ll be staying at a KOA in the United States in the near future, be sure to ask about, and take advantage of, their military discount.
