About Schlitterbahn

Schlitterbahn was opened in 1979 as a small, family owned and operated waterpark in New Braunfels, Texas.

Today, they have expanded to new locations and have been purchased by the well known Cedar Fair corporation.

The waterparks are known for their high thrill speed slides, raft rides, water coasters, and miles lazy rivers powered by natural river water.

With water playgrounds for little ones and swim up bars for the adults, the parks have fun for every member of the family.

What Is The Official Schlitterbahn Military Discount?

Schlitterbahn offers three ways to save for United States military members.

We will look into each of these discount programs below.

Schlitterbahn Discount Tickets

The first way to save on Schlitterbahn admission is to buy a ticket from our local Ticket and Travel office.

The parks do not offer a daily military discount, so this is the deal you will want to take advantage of if you are not going to the park during American Heroes Week (explained below) and if you are not planning to stay at their resort while you attend the park (discount again shown below).

Discount tickets are sold at the following base Ticket and Travel offices, near Schlitterbahn parks:

  • Barksdale Air Force Base
  • Dyess Air Force Base
  • Fort Hood
  • Fort Sam Houston
  • Lackland Air Force Base
  • NAS Corpus Christi
  • NAS Kingsville
  • Randolph Air Force Base

The easiest way to purchase discounted tickets is to go into the Ticket and Travel office at one of the bases listed above.

If you live out of the area, Fort Hood and Lackland Air Force Base both process orders by mail.

To use this service, call one of the offices at the numbers listed below:

Lackland: 210-671-3059

Fort Hood: 254-287-7310 or 254-532-5292

The prices of these tickets vary by base, so you may want to call and ask for current prices before you go to make your purchase.

You can view the Fort Hood prices here for a general example.

Again these prices vary by location.

Even the Fort Hood prices are subject to change.

However, the tickets are always going to be cheaper than purchasing them for full price at the Schlitterbahn gate.

Another thing to keep in mind is that along with daily tickets, the bases typically offer season passes at discount rates as well.

These can help you to save even more on Schlitterbahn admission costs, especially if you live close and plan to visit frequently.

American Heroes Week at Schlitterbahn

Even though Schlitterbahn does not offer a daily deal on admission for military members at their gate, they do give back in a couple other ways.

One of these ways is through their American Heroes Week.

For one week each year, military members can receive free admission to the Schlitterbahn parks, and their family members who attend with them can get in for 40% off.

Military members can also receive additional discounts during this week, including 25% off Photo Haus purchases, 10% off retail items sold at the parks, $10 off Sky Coaster Flights at the New Braunfels location, and $10 off Soaring Eagle Rides for 2 riders at the Galveston Island parks.

To get your free ticket, simply watch for the yearly advertisement, go to the park during the event, and show your valid military ID to receive a complimentary admissions wristband.

To get discounted tickets for your family members, simply buy their tickets at the same time.

When you present your military ID, their tickets will be rung up at the lower rate as well.

Spend The Night and Save

If you are not attending the park during the American Heroes Week, there is still a way for you to receive free admission.

If you stay at the Schlitterbahn resort, you can save 20% off your resort bill and you (the military member only) get free admission to the park during your stay.

To take advantage of this deal, simply show your military ID when you book your room or check in for your stay.

Who Can Claim This Deal?

The different Schlitterbahn military deals have some small differences in eligibility, so we will look into who can claim these deals individually below.

Discount Tickets

The discount tickets are available to anyone who is eligible to shop at Ticket and Travel offices on military bases.

This typically includes current military members and their direct family members, and may also include retired military members and 100% medically disabled veterans.

Unfortunately, veterans are normally not able to shop at these offices, and therefore would not be able to claim this deal.

However, you will want to check with your base to be sure on eligibility before you decide whether or not to try and use this deal.

American Heroes Week

The free tickets that are given out during American Heroes Week are more generous when it comes to who can claim.

Current military members are still able to use these free tickets.

This includes members of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard.

It includes those who serve in Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard roles.

Past military members, including all veterans and retired military members, are able to attend the park for free during this event.

Department of Defense employees can claim the deal as well.

The 40% off deal for family members includes spouses and dependents that attend with their military member relative.

Spend the Night and Save

All current or former military members can claim the free tickets that come with the resort stay that we mentioned above.

You can refer to the same guidelines we mentioned above to see if you are eligible for this deal.

What Are The Restrictions?

Since the discounted tickets are only available at Ticket and Travel Offices, they come with the restrictions set by each individual office.

To ensure you will be able to purchase the tickets you need, you may want to call ahead before visiting the base.

The American Heroes Week has a few restrictions that you will need to pay attention to if you are planning on attending as well.

The free tickets are only available during the advertised week.

If you purchase gate tickets during any other time of year, you will end up paying full price.

Also, military family members need to visit the park with their service member relative to receive the discounted tickets.

The tickets must all be purchased by the military member.

No discount will be given to family members who buy their own tickets, even if they have a Spouse or Dependent military ID.

The free ticket that comes with the resort stay for military members does not come with any restrictions, besides that it must be used by the military member during the time that they are staying in the resort.

Conclusion

Overall, the Ticket and Travel office discounted admission price, American Heroes Week, and the free ticket with a resort stay together give service members plenty of ways to save at Schlitterbahn waterparks and resorts.

If you’re looking for a fun family vacation in the future, considering checking out these parks and taking advantage of the deal that is right for you.
