#5 – Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy

Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy (FSYCA) began in 1993, and it is a school for students to earn their high school diploma and recover lost credits needed for graduation.

Congress opened the Youth Challenge Academy as a free program for residents with the goal of increasing student graduation success.

Also, the program is part of the Georgia National Guard.

The program is a second chance for at-risk teenagers. The 16- to 18-year-old students are in a military environment that offers structure and discipline.

The alternative education program works to create opportunities for students to earn their diplomas and be able to enter the workforce with a skill.

Usually, students spend 22 weeks in the program while living on campus.

Also, the Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy is partnered with the Job Corps, so students can enroll in both the Academy and the Job Corps at the same time. 

Other than academics, FSYCA offers vocational certifications in several areas such as culinary arts and occupational safety, to name a couple.

Certifications help students by giving them a marketable skill for when they leave the program. 

Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy has graduated over 9,000 students over the years.
