Delta Military Discount – Ways to Save!

Delta mentions on their military travel page that they are “delighted to serve those who serve and protect us”.

As a result, active duty service members of the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard are entitled to receive exclusive discounts when you travel with Delta.

The Delta military discount is expansive.

In addition to getting cheaper flights you can also check-in more bags for free than civilian customers.

Furthermore, the airline has special offers on Delta Vacations (more information, below) and pet travel.

Let’s start first with airfare. The Delta military discount does not define an exact percentage of savings on a flight.

It varies based on a number of factors. The Delta military discount is comparable to what other major airlines do for military personnel and veterans.

As a result, you will need to contact the airline directly for more details.

How to Receive Cheap Airline Tickets

In order to receive discounted flights from Delta that are exclusive to active duty military and retired/veterans you must contact Delta Airlines.

You can reach the Delta Military and Government desk at 800-221-1212.

The military and government desk can assist you with airfare for a variety of reasons, including personal leisure travel as well as assignments based on military orders.

The Delta Military and Government Desk is open Monday through Friday – 8:30 am to 7:30 pm EST.

It is important to keep that in mind as you cannot reach them on the weekends for last minute reservations.

Delta Military Discount on Baggage

Do you remember the good old days when you could basically bring anything onto an airplane?

Furthermore, you could do so without having to take out a small mortgage alone on baggage fees.

Thankfully, Delta also recognizes that U.S. Military deserves special offers on baggage in addition to airfare.

Active duty service members receive exclusive savings on baggage.

The amount of free bags depends if you are traveling on military orders or for personal leisure:

Active Duty Military Traveling on Orders

Active duty personnel traveling on orders are allowed to check-in up to five free bags. Each bag can weigh up to 100 lbs.

The baggage discount is good for Delta Basic Economy, Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One tickets.

Additionally, your bags are allowed to be longer than typical allowances.

Those traveling on orders can check-in bags that are 80 inches (total length + width + height).

Military Traveling for Leisure/Vacation

Delta treats the military discount on baggage a little differently if you are not on official assignment.

However, the allowances are still better than what civilian customers have to follow.

Service members traveling for personal reasons may check-in up to two free bags (50 lbs. each) for Basic Economy, Main Cabin, and Delta Comfort+ airfare.

Meanwhile, those that upgrade to First Class, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One seats can check up to three free bags (70 lbs. each).

The size of the bags are more limited compared to those traveling on orders.

For leisure trips military personnel are allowed to have bags that are up to 62 inches (total length + width + height).

NOTE: The baggage benefits regarding the Delta military discount are subject to any applicable embargoes or regional weight restrictions. You can learn more about excess page issues.
