Fairbanks is not nearly as large as Anchorage yet houses several more military bases.

The military-friendly town has a sizeable population and access to necessities.

Regardless, military families are notoriously tough in Fairbanks since they live in the coldest reported city in the interior region of Alaska.

Alaska military bases in Fairbanks, AK include:

  • Fort Wainwright
  • Fort Greely
  • Eielson Air Force Base
  • Clear Space Force Station

The U.S. military presence in Fairbanks has been considerable since Fort Wainwright was established during WWII.

Fort Wainwright is one of two U.S. Army posts in Alaska (the other is Fort Greely).

Meanwhile, Eielson AFB is under the command of the United States Air Force.

The U.S. Air Force also previously had a military installation out in Anderson, AK that was recently transferred to U.S. Space Force.

Clear Space Force Station (previously Clear Air Force Station) exists outside Denali.

It’s considered one of the most strategically important installations in all of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The station is one of the first in a series of early detection installations that monitor incoming ballistic missiles.

For this reason, Clear Space Force Station is known to feature world-class technology, radar, and satellite capabilities.
